After being left to die in the Egyptian desert during an archaeological dig gone awry, Mercenary Marc Spector was discovered by worshipers of the moon god, Khonshu. When his heart stopped in front of the statue of Khonshu, the moon god appeared to Spector in a vision, offering him a second chance at life to become the god's avatar on Earth. When he awoke, Spector wore a cloak taken from Khonshu's statue and declared he would deliver vengeance in the moon god's name, becoming the mystical hero Moon Knight.
